The Mysteries of Snow

As many of you may have seen on the news (or with your own two eyes if you live here), we got hit pretty hard with a snow storm. There is still a decent amount of snow on the ground. As I'm typing this I'm watching the birds outside fight to get food from our bird feeder.

We had an ice storm the day before. That night it turned to snow. Carol was going to go to work when we thought the roads weren't all that bad until our neighbor came back from driving (this is before the snow) as said she shouldn't go out. The main roads are fine but Carol works out in the middle of nowhere. I had put large cardboard sheets on the windshield and back window, thinking she would be driving it, in order to keep the snow off. It worked great for me the next morning when I went to work. The sheets were under six inches of snow but my windows required zero ice scrapping.

Later that day, after I headed to work (on the completely unplowed interstate 70), Carol went out with Macey to play in the snow. Carol was going to try to unbury the van from the snow and ice (it didn't work). Macey at first didn't want to go in the snow. Carol had spent ten to fifteen minutes getting Macey buried under layers of clothes and coats... she was going to play in that snow! She lifted her up and placed her in the middle of the front yard. Macey screamed. Carol shrugged and walked off.

A few of the neighbors, who were scrapping their cars or shoveling driveways, looked over at Macey but I think they are all used to her strong personality. It wasn't too much later that Macey was jumping in the snow and making snow angels.

Macey ran into the backyard to play on the swing set as Carol was quickly on her way to giving up on the van. Suddenly Macey came running into the front yard, "Mommy! Mommy! Show you somethin'"

Carol asked her what it was but Macey only grabbed her hand and dragged her along. "Show you."

They got to the backyard and Macey outstretched her arms. "Look!"

Carol shrugged, "What?"

Macey said, as if making the discovery of a lifetime, "It snowed back here, too!!!"
